WASHOE VALLEY — After phone calls from several concerned drivers Monday, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers arrested Daniel Preston, 20, of Reno for driving under the influence of drugs.

Monday at about 5:30 p.m., several motorists traveling on U.S. 395 in the Washoe Valley and the Pleasant Valley areas called the NHP to report a vehicle being driven recklessly. The vehicle was described as a black Chevrolet truck displaying a Nevada license plate.

Witnesses told the trooper that the vehicle had been traveling about 90 mph in the Washoe Valley area and was unable to maintain a travel lane and almost struck several other vehicles.

Furthermore, witnesses also said the truck hit a sign post and there was accident damage from the vehicle that supported their claims. One witness also provided digital video from his iPhone to a trooper of the truck swerving.

A trooper in the area found the truck and made an enforcement stop on U.S. 395 near Towne Drive in Pleasant Valley.

Preston was found to be the driver of the car.  Although alcohol was not a contributing factor to his reckless driving, Preston admitted to smoking marijuana and taking prescription medication. He also freely admitted that he had used heroin. After performing and failing a series of field sobriety tests, Preston was placed under arrest without incident.

He was transported to the Washoe County jail and booked on charges of reckless driving, second offense of driving under the influence of drugs, no current proof of insurance, failure to report an accident and being under the influence of a controlled substance. His bail is $3,919.

The NHP asks that drivers who want to report an automobile accident, stranded motorist, roadway hazard, suspected impaired or drunken drivers or other highway emergency do so from their cell phone by dialing *NHP (*647).
