RENO — KRZQ FM, through its Spring Forward by Paying it Forward campaign, has helped the local community raise $23,523.34 for three area nonprofit organizations, including the SPCA of Northern Nevada, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and the Children’s Cabinet.

Local bands worked hard to raise funds and make a difference through activities such as cleaning up parks and the SPCA shelter, painting the Children’s Cabinet’s drop-in youth center, playing free shows via the Spring Forward Concert Series and a number of other creative events.

While the bands did most of the work in this campaign, several local businesses also contributed. Best Buy has donated $8,000 to these nonprofits as a part of its @15 program. The Brew Brothers also donated 10 percent of all beer sales during the Spring Forward Concert Series.

On Saturday at the Rink on the River, the Battle Born Derby Demons roller derby team will host its fourth annual aBout Reno and will donate a portion of the proceeds from the event to the campaign’s nonprofits. Best Buy has contributed a flat-screen TV to be raffled off for donations.

July 24 is the official close of the campaign. Top campaigning local bands A Digital Lie, The Reagan Years and Hear Me Arizona will open up the Spring Forward Festival featuring national acts Neon Trees, Paper Tongues and Civil Twilight on July 24 at the Knitting Factory. The Knitting Factory is donating $5 from every ticket sold directly to Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, the SPCA of Northern Nevada and the Children’s Cabinet. Limited edition T-shirts, printed by Reno eNVy, will be available for a suggested donation at these events.
