RENO — The National Automobile Museum, The Harrah Collection, in downtown Reno is joining other car enthusiasts for the first celebration of National Collector Car Day on July 9 with two-for-one admission, a car club show and shine, costumed characters, special presentations and more.

The U.S. Senate has approved a resolution for a Collector Car Appreciation Day to acknowledge America’s love affair with the car and motorsports.

“National Collector Car Day will provide classic car enthusiasts across the nation with the perfect opportunity to put the top down, toot their car’s own unique horn and drive their impressive automobiles to parties and celebrations of the day,” said Jackie Frady, executive director of the National Automobile Museum. “We started planning our celebration as soon as we heard the Senate resolution had passed.”

Two-for-one admission to the museum on July 9 includes access to all displays and special exhibits, including “WWI Gets Motorized” and “Motoring Tourist: National Park Adventure.” The show and shine in the parking lot will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also included with the price of admission is the acclaimed film “Paving The Way: The National Park-to-Park Highway.” The film will be shown at 1 p.m.
