The victim reported that she had just parked her car and was preparing to walk to her boyfriend’s apartment when she was approached by two men who have been identified as Edvin Martinez-Mendez, 24, and Wilmer Avelar, 22. One of the men pulled a handgun and ordered the woman out of her car. Both men then demanded her purse, which she surrendered. Both men then ran away from the scene.
Several Reno police officers were in the area when the call came out and began searching the immediate area. Officer Bryan McQuattie located two subjects to the rear of 3750 Kietzke Lane matching the description of the robbery suspects. When the men spotted the officer, they took off running and were captured after a short chase.
A trail of the victim’s property was found from the original point of contact to the arrest location. Also recovered was a small handgun that was used during the robbery.
Two arrested on local fraud charges
RENO –– The All Threats All Crimes Task Force (ATAC), comprised of detectives from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety, arrested two suspects Saturday as a result of a fraud crime investigation occurring in Washoe County.
The investigation identified John Eugene Marsh, 41, of Reno, as a suspect in numerous identity thefts, credit card fraud and multiple other offenses. Jennifer Ann Copling, 33, of Reno, was arrested as an accomplice in these crimes.
Marsh was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility for 91 separate charges including burglary, fraudulent use of a credit card, forgery, identity theft, obtaining money under false pretense and grand larceny. His bail is set at $337,685.
Copling was booked for burglary, grand larceny, obtaining money under false pretense and contempt of court. Her bail is set at $10,465.
