SPARKS — The city of Sparks will hold a public workshop to receive additional input from residents on the city’s proposed transportation policies that will support Sparks draft comprehensive master plan. The workshop is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the city’s Community Development Department located at 1675 E. Prater Way, Suite 107.

A connected city is a citywide system of pedestrian walkways, bike trails, public transit opportunities and street networks. Sparks is reviewing the national trend of transforming city roads to a “complete street” concept. A complete street is safe, accessible and convenient for all users regardless of transportation mode, age or physical condition, according to a city statement.

This is the third of five policy frameworks that will eventually make up a new master plan for the city. Previous workshops focused on sustainability policies, the land use map and land use policies.

The city of Sparks comprehensive master plan is the official adopted plan for the city and its sphere of influence, integrating land use, economic development, housing, recreation, arts and culture, transportation, community facilities, sustainability and community design into a unified plan. The primary purpose of the plan is to provide long-range guidance to property owners and decision makers on development issues and is intended to guide the growth and development of Sparks for the next 20 years.
