The commercial land use cap was set at 7.5 percent in the 1990s and has since been revised to 9.89 percent.
The increase in commercial land use comes as a result of development projects that have been approved for the Spanish Springs area, including the Village at the Peak shopping center, which raised the commercial land use to 9.89 percent earlier this year.
The CAB will discuss a proposal to remove the commercial land cap from the Spanish Springs Area Plan with the guidance of Washoe County Planner Eric Young.
Also, the board will address the topic of driver safety at the intersection of Calle de la Plata and Pyramid Highway. The Spanish Springs CAB will discuss various options and could provide recommendations to the Washoe County Board of Commissioners.
The CAB as well as Spanish Springs residents have expressed concern over the intersection and the need for either a signal or some form of traffic improvement at the busy intersection.
In addition to revisiting the issues surrounding the need to update the Spanish Springs Area Plan, the board will listen to a presentation by Christina Conti with Washoe County Emergency Management. Conti will give an overview of the county’s hazards mitigation plan, including the plan's goals, objectives and mitigation strategies.
The board will also re-address the issue of pedestrian safety in the Spanish Springs area including access to Lazy 5 Regional Park as well as shopping areas.
The Spanish Springs CAB will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Lazy 5 Regional Park Community Center located at 7100 Pyramid Highway in Spanish Springs.
