Man arrested for raping a wheelchair bound woman

RENO — On Oct. 30, an adult female who suffers from Cerebral Palsy was sexually assaulted by a stranger.

Reno Police officers learned that the victim, who is wheelchair bound, went to the strip mall at 3350 S. McCarran Blvd. where a Hispanic male led her behind the businesses, raped her and fled leaving her half naked on the ground. Later that evening, patrol officers responded to the apartment complex behind the strip mall regarding a domestic disturbance. The man in the disturbance, Joel Ortega, 29, was arrested for domestic violence charges. The officers making the arrest noticed similarities bewteen Ortega and the description of the suspect in the sexual assault.

A police investigation resulted in the arrest of Ortega for two counts of sexual assault.
