Reno had to claw back into the game after Fresno posted a six-spot in the top of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.
However, with one out left in the ninth and down 8-6, it looked like the Mother's Day crowd of 8,813 would go home disappointed. But the Aces never quit.
Luke Carlin singled to right field with two outs. Agustin Murillo pulled a pitch through the right side of the infield for a base hit and Reno was rolling.
Ruben Gotay was able to reach first on an infield single deep in the hole at shortstop, loading the bases.
Brandon Watson, hitless in the game to that point, hit a comebacker up the middle, driving in two runs to knot the game at 8-8 and send it to extra innings.
"We're going to always fight back. We've got a guy in scoring position to win that game after being down by that much. It shows what kind of character these guys have," Reno manager Brett Butler said.
But the 10th did not go the Aces' way, who were dealt their third straight loss, allowing the Grizzlies (14-16) to jump over them in the PCL South's standings.
Fresno rapped out three hits in the top of the 10th and with one out Wald stepped into the batter's box for the first time on the day. Wald was just looking for something up in the zone, so he could drive it to the outfield for a sacrifice fly. He got what he was looking for.
Wald locked into a 2-0 changeup and blasted it over the wall in left field, clearing the bases and sending many fans to the exits.
"Give a lot of credit to the guys in front of me who got and put me in a good position to hit," Wald said. "I just tried to put the ball in the air and hopefully get a sac fly, and that one just carried out."
Those fans had witnessed a good game to that point. With time running out on Reno (13-17), the top of the order came through in the bottom of the seventh.
The Aces cut the deficit to 7-4 on Trent Oeltjen's RBI double, Rusty Ryal's RBI single and Stephen Drew's RBI triple - all coming with two outs.
Reno made it a 7-6 game in the next inning. Gotay slapped an 0-2 pitch up the middle, plating Murillo, who had doubled. Gotay eventually scored on Chris Roberson's infield hit.
In the top of the ninth, Fresno catcher Eli Whiteside tried to give his team a little more breathing room with a solo homer - his second home run of the game from the No. 8 hole. He had a three-run shot as part of the six-run fourth.
Whiteside's bomb to lead off the ninth proved to keep the Grizzlies out of the loss column.
Steve Hammond threw six innings of one-hit ball against the Aces, but did not figure in the decision thanks to Gino Espinelli's blown save. Espinelli did pick up the vulture win.
Trent Oeltjen had three hits in the losing cause, while Watson drove in a trio of runs.
Reno will try to avoid the four-game sweep today when Seth Etherton (3-1, 3.71 ERA) starts on the mound for the Aces. Fresno will counter with Matt Kinney (1-4, 7.20 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
