RENO — A school bus driver was cited after his crowded bus struck a sport utility vehicle from behind on U.S. 395 south of Reno.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen says only a few of the 47 elementary school children aboard Friday reported suffering any kind of minor injury.

The bus, which escaped with minor damage, was returning to Reno after a field trip to Carson City.

Allen says the northbound bus and SUV were following a vehicle that was turning right off the highway in Pleasant Valley.

He says the bus driver slowed down but struck the rear of the SUV at a very low rate of speed.

The bus driver, 63-year-old Gary Grate of Reno, was cited for failure to decrease his speed.
